"How much to take down a tree?" is the question we hear most — and the honest answer is that no two removals price the same. A small ornamental in an open front yard and a storm-cracked silver maple leaning over a garage are completely different jobs, even if both are "one tree."

1. Tree size (height and trunk diameter)
Size is the biggest driver. A taller tree means more cutting time, more rigging, and more wood to haul away. Trunk diameter matters just as much as height — a short, thick-trunked oak can take longer to process than a tall, skinny pine.
2. Access to the tree
Can equipment reach the tree, or does everything have to be roped down and carried out by hand? Backyard trees behind fences, narrow side yards, and soft lawns that can't take machine weight all add labor hours. 3. What's underneath and around it
A tree in an open field can be felled in one cut. A tree over your roof, deck, fence, pool, or your neighbor's property has to come down in controlled sections, with each limb roped and lowered. That rigging work is skilled, slow, and priced accordingly — it's also exactly the part you don't want done cheaply.
4. The tree's condition
Counterintuitively, dead or dying trees often cost more to remove, not less. Dead wood is brittle and unpredictable, so climbers have to work more cautiously, and severely decayed trunks sometimes can't be climbed at all — forcing bucket-truck or crane work. If you're seeing the warning signs, removing a declining tree sooner usually costs less than removing it later.
5. Stump grinding — included or separate?
Standard removal cuts the tree to a low stump. Grinding that stump below grade so you can re-sod or replant is typically a separate line item, priced by stump diameter. Bundling stump grinding with the removal visit is almost always cheaper than having a crew come back later — the machine is already there.
6. Debris hauling and cleanup
Our quotes include full cleanup: wood, brush, and debris hauled away, the site raked clean. If you'd like logs left cut for firewood, say so — skipping the haul-away can lower your price.
7. Emergency vs. scheduled work
